1. Temperature Keeps Decreasing

Temperature decreasing is a common problem that many users faced during the cooking process. There are several factors that can cause a decrease in temperature, such as a lack of pellet fuel or a dirty firepot.

If the pellets are running low, the auger may not be feeding enough fuel to maintain the desired temperature.

Similarly, a dirty firepot can reduce the airflow and cause the fire to smolder, resulting in lower temperatures.

Another factor that can contribute to temperature decrease is weather conditions.

Cold or windy weather can affect the grill’s ability to hold temperature, especially if it is not properly insulated.

Also, the type of food being cooked can affect the temperature. Dense meats or large cuts may require longer cooking times, which can cause the temperature to drop as the fuel supply dwindles.

2. Pellets Problem

The pellets problem is a common issue that Traeger Pro 34 users may encounter. The quality and type of pellets used in grilling play a crucial role in maintaining a consistent temperature.

 When this happens, the temperature may drop, the fire may go out, or the grill may produce uneven heat.

Blockages can be due to various factors, including using low-quality or improperly sized pellets, not cleaning the grill regularly, or overfilling the hopper. 

To prevent blockages, you should use high-quality pellets that are the correct size for your grill, as well as to keep the hopper and auger tube clean and free of debris.

If you do experience a blockage, there are a few steps you can take to fix the issue.

  1. First, try clearing any visible obstructions from the hopper or auger tube. 
  2. You can also try manually turning the auger to dislodge any stuck pellets.
  3. In some cases, it may be necessary to disassemble the auger system and clean it thoroughly.

5. Firebox Issue

Over time, the firebox may start to warp due to excessive heat exposure.

As a result, pellets may not burn efficiently, causing a fluctuation in temperature. 

This may lead to uneven and inconsistent cooking, which is frustrating for any chef. The firebox is a critical component of the Traeger Pro 34, as it helps maintain the desired temperature throughout the cooking process. 

If the firebox is not functioning correctly, the smoker will not be able to generate enough heat to cook food at the right temperature.

However, the good news is that this issue can be easily fixed. One solution is to replace the firebox with a new one. Traeger offers fireboxes as spare parts, and by replacing them, you can resolve the problem of uneven temperature.

 Another solution is to reinforce the firebox with aluminum foil. This helps deflect excessive heat and prevent warping.

Moreover, it is crucial to clean the firebox regularly to avoid any buildup of ash or debris that can affect its performance.

A clean firebox will ensure smooth air circulation and even heat distribution.

Why is the temperature wrong on my Traeger?

The temperature on your Traeger may be wrong for a variety of reasons, including incorrect calibration, poor airflow over the igniter rod, or inadequate pellet fuel supply.

Incorrect calibration can occur if the grill has not been properly calibrated with the included thermometer adhesive strip, or if extreme cold conditions have prevented proper heating of the thermometer’s sensor.

Poor airflow can cause heat to accumulate and make it difficult for the igniter rod to reach optimal temperatures.

Lastly, an inadequate pellet fuel supply can leave the grill short of fuel during cooking which will reduce its heat output.

How do you calibrate a Traeger temperature sensor?

First, you need to make sure that all vents on your Traeger are open, then turn the controller up one notch above where you would normally set it for cooking.

Once this has been done, wait 10 minutes and take a reading with an accurate thermometer.

If the two readings don’t match up within ±15 degrees Fahrenheit (8 °C), turn your controller dial up or down until they match up.
